A letter from Robert
I am writing to ask for your vote as I seek reelection to the Kentucky House of Representatives for the 88th District. My desire to run for reelection is founded on my sincere belief that Kentucky stands squarely on the edge of a great divide – between realizing its great promise and continuing the flawed policies of the past.
For far too long the Democrat majority in the Kentucky House of Representatives has facilitated a political, legal, and social structure premised on the belief that government, rather than people, should control the Commonwealth’s future. They have over promised, over taxed, over regulated, and under delivered. Through this failed leadership, many have been led to turn their backs on the great American principles of self-reliance, self-determination, and individual liberty in exchange for the false promise of the government caretaker. At the same time, they have objectively refused to have frank and honest discussions about the underlying issues that continue to artificially restrain Kentucky’s promise. From economic development and job creation, to education, health care, government spending, public pensions, entitlements, and debt, the Democrat majority has orchestrated and advocated for policies that can only be described as incoherent, illogical, unsustainable and irresponsible.
To reach its great potential, Kentucky requires visionary leadership founded on fundamental Constitutional principles. I pledge to continue to deliver that kind of principled leadership and to strongly advocate for the following three objectives.
First, government must create an economic environment in which individuals and businesses can innovate, grow, and, prosper. We must move swiftly from our historical job-killing environment to one of economic development and job creation. It is imperative that Kentucky reform its business climate in a manner that allows us to aggressively compete for business operations looking to start-up, expand, or relocate. This will require a marketplace that is free from frivolous regulations and lawsuits, and which removes impediments to open labor markets. Additionally, we must reform our arcane tax system so that hard work, savings, and investment – both corporately and individually, are rewarded not penalized.
Second, by using evidence-based principles, we must take all steps necessary to make Kentucky a recognized leader in designing and implementing high-quality, cost-effective health care and education delivery systems. This includes bringing competition and choice to K-12 education through charter schools and tax credits as well as rejecting the unstainable socialization of our health care system under Obamacare. To achieve broad access to affordable, high quality health care we must work with providers to design a delivery system that is patient centered, provider friendly, and value driven.
Third, government must be transparent, accountable, and fiscally responsible. As the Inspector General for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services from 2004 to 2007, I earned a reputation for aggressively investigating fraud, waste, and abuse. I continue to champion the principles of transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility as a legislator.
In my first term in office I have worked diligently to fulfill these objectives and promise that I will continue to do so if reelected. For far too long Kentucky has failed to take the actions necessary to ensure its long-term success and prosperity. Now is the time to act boldly, to lead, and to create a great Commonwealth that our children and grandchildren will want to call home. Should you decide to support my reelection, I hope that you will help me communicate my message with your friends, colleagues, and neighbors and encourage them to support me as well.
I look forward to continuing to serve you and all the citizens of Kentucky in Frankfort. I ask you to contact me at ElectBenvenuti@gmail.com or 859-421-1464 if you would like to discuss these or other issues.
Very Truly Yours,
Robert J. Benvenuti III
